Assessing the Project

I really liked the way my project turned out. It is a lot simpler than some of the other projects presented in class. Everyone had their own vision and idea of what they wanted their project to look like.
One of the most challenging parts of the project was to do the podcast. No one likes hearing a recording of their voice! I took some of my sorority sisters to the Poor House so I could get some feedback from them for the podcast. It was like pulling teeth to get them to speak into the microphone, especially without laughing!
Another hard part of making my project was using Wordpress and uploading pictures. Some pictures would go where I wanted them to go on the page. If I had used Dreamweaver I would have been able to manipulate it more.
I think my slide show turned out really great! The music goes well with the pictures.
This is definitely one of my favorite projects so far out of all my classes here at SJSU. I sent my page to family and friends so I could share a little bit about the class as well as blues music with them. And my dad and his band mates where impressed!
I probably won't keep my Blues Blog updates, but you never know how bored a may be when I get my tonsils taken out over summer. I will have a lot of downtime. Maybe I will keep my followers updated on the blues in San Jose!

Reflective Writing--Checking In

My multimedia project is turning out a lot better than I thought it would! I'm using a Wordpress and kind of trying to follow the layout of the class blog with the pages. I also didn't make a movie, so I made a three minute slide show along with music of musicians at the Poor House Bistro. I started a YouTube account and uploaded the video there. It was really easy to get up and running! The only thing I have left to do is the audio part of the project. I just download Audacity and will hopefully be recording a successful voice recording and making some sort of Podcast.

Social Media Reflection

After a week of playing around with some new social media, I decided that I didn't like VIRB. I signed up for it and couldn't figure out how to use it. I don't know anyone that uses it, so I didn't even know how to add any friends. I looked at the music and artist who had pages and it was similar to Myspace. The layout was very simple.

I decided to sign up for a Flickr account. I added my mom as a contact as well as some other friends. I didn't post any pictures, but I looked through my mom's and others photos. It cool how people from all over the world can post their photography and people can comment on it. A friend of the family has post pictures of her daughter playing in the grass and someone from the Walmart advertising team saw this picture and actually bought it. This picture is now part of the new Walmart advertisement for hair products. I actually saw it in a few May issues of magazines!

Getting Started on Final Project

I was up in the air with my final project for a few weeks. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to work with a partner or not and what my subject should be. I finally decided to do it on a live music menu and restaurant. My dad has played in many blues bands and live music is always been apart of my life. It’s something that I always think my friends are going to think is lame, but they always seem to enjoy it when they see it.

I want to record a video of a live performance, but I don’t know if it will be good quality with sound and feedback. I have a lot of pictures that my mom and I have taken that we post on Flickr. I’m planning on using a Wordpress blog. I’m thinking about having a page about the restaurant, the live music, and the specific bands my dad plays in. Musician biographies might be a fun page to have.

I know this project is going to be a lot harder then the labs that we have worked on in class, but I’m hoping it will be worth it. It’s going to take a lot of time, but I know I will get it done! I’m looking forward to asking my dad and his band mates for some input!

Thursday's Class 4/24

Since I missed class on Thursday due to my continuous fight with strep throat I couldn't share my do's and don'ts of the iMovie project.

I have never used iMovie or any other type of software to make a movie to post on the Internet. I used a digital camera to film my video. I did it at the gym, so it was hard to film my voice or others with all the background noise. I didn't really know how to edit it out when I uploaded it on the computer. I also had difficulties making the music in the video not cover up the dialog. If I had more time and experience I would have been able to make it better.

Hopefully my short iMovie experiences will help me out with my final project. I know it might be difficult because I am going to try and film a live music performance.

Social Media

In class today we talked about social media. I am already a user of Myspace and Facebook. For the last few weeks of the semester we are being encouraged to try out something new that we aren't already a part of. Some in class mentioned VIRB. I checked it out and decided to sign up. When I signed up, it gave me different choices. I made a personal account, but there were also different options to pick. From what I saw, there are bands and photographers on the site.

I'm thinking about playing around with it for the next week and if I like it, I might want to use it for my final project. My mom uses Flickr and has been encouraging me to take her camera and post some pictures.
